Located on the city's north-western suburbs, Christchurch Airport (CHC) is well connected to Canterbury and the South Island by a range of modern, reliable and affordable ground transportation.
From CHC Airport, buses, shuttles and taxis all regularly ply the route into central Christchurch. However, many nearby suburban areas of Canterbury are also within easy reach, such as Halswell, Lyttelton, Mount Pleasant, New Brighton, Northwood, Prebbleton, Upper Riccarton, Waimairi Beach and Wigram.
Buses and Shuttles
'Metro' buses / coaches are available all day from Monday to Friday, and between 11:00 to 16:30 on Saturday and Sunday. The bus journey into central Christchurch usually takes around 30 to 40 minutes, or thereabouts. Mini-vans, air-conditioned coaches and shared shuttles also compete for your custom with ranks being located close to the terminal, at the Regional Lounge and the northern side of the Arrivals Hall (International). Companies operating at the airport include Budget Shuttles, Great Sights, Knight Rider, Newmans Coachlines, Super Shuttle and West Coast Shuttle.
Hotel Shuttle
Both nearby hotels and those in the city centre are often connected by free hotel shuttles. The Copthorne and Sudima are example of hotels provide courtesy shuttles for their arriving guests.
Taxi Cabs
The journey into central Christchurch by taxi lasts approximately 20 minutes. There are two separate taxi ranks at CHC Airport, being next to the Regional Lounge (between the parking garage and terminal) and next to International Arrivals (between the long-term parking area and the terminal). Taxi firms operating here include Blue Star, Green Cabs and Corporate Cabs. Limousines and chaeuffeur-driven cars can also be organised in advance, where required.
